UJ uLink is the University of Johannesburg’s student portal and your single sign-on to almost everything you need as a UJ student: registration, results, fees, timetables, email and Blackboard. This guide explains how to log in to uLink, create or reset your password, and what you can do on the portal.
What Is UJ uLink?
uLink (ulink.uj.ac.za) is UJ’s student portal, linked as “Student Portal / uLink” on the UJ website. It gives students one place to access UJ’s online systems with a single set of login details, and it works on mobile browsers.

- Fee statements and payments
- Timetables
- UJ student email (Microsoft 365)
- Blackboard, UJ’s online learning platform for course content and assessments

How to Log In to UJ uLink
- Go to ulink.uj.ac.za (or click “Student Portal / uLink” on uj.ac.za).
- Enter your UJ student number as your login ID.
- Enter your password.
- Select the service you need, such as Blackboard, email or registration.
First Time? Create Your Password
New students create a password from the uLink login page. You’ll need your student number, which UJ sends in your application acknowledgement email. Choose a strong password and don’t share it with anyone.
Forgot Your uLink Password?
Use the password reset option on the uLink login page. You’ll typically be asked for your student number and your South African ID or passport number. If self-service reset doesn’t work, contact the UJ call centre or visit an ICT help counter on campus.
uLink vs the UJ Application Login
Applicants check their application through UJ’s application system using a student number and 5-digit PIN, with a second password step sent by email. Once you are a registered student, uLink becomes your main portal. If you’re still waiting for an outcome, see How to Check Your UJ Application Status.
Accessing Blackboard Through uLink
Blackboard is where your lecturers post notes, announcements and assignments. Open it from the Blackboard tile on uLink and sign in with your UJ details. The Blackboard mobile app is also available.
uLink Problems and Fixes
- Wrong password: reset it from the login page instead of trying repeatedly.
- Student number unknown: check your UJ acknowledgement email or use UJ’s “retrieve student number” option.
- Pages not loading: clear your browser cache, try another browser, or use a computer for registration and fee screens.
- Still stuck: call UJ on +27 11 559 4555 or WhatsApp +27 87 240 6854.
Keep Your Account Safe
- Never share your password or PIN, including with people offering to “help” with registration.
- Don’t save your password on shared computers.
- UJ will not ask you to pay anyone to access uLink.
