Applied to the University of Johannesburg and waiting for news? This guide explains how to check your UJ application status online, what you need to log in, what each status means, and what to do next.
What Happens After You Apply
When you submit your application, UJ sends an acknowledgement email with your student number and application details. According to UJ’s FAQs, processing and selection can take up to 15 working days once your application is complete. Grade 12 learners are selected on final Grade 11 results first, so your status may change again when final Matric results are released in January.

How to Check Your UJ Application Status
- Go to uj.ac.za and open Admissions + Aid → Undergraduate.
- Choose the Returning or Internal Applicant login (for applicants who already have a UJ student number), or use UJ’s “Check Your Status” option.
- Log in with your student number and 5-digit PIN.
- Complete UJ’s two-step login: UJ emails a temporary password to your registered email address, which you use to create your own password.
- Open your application information to see your status for each study choice.
Forgot Your Student Number or PIN?
UJ’s login page has options to retrieve a forgotten student number or PIN. If you already created a password, use “Forgot Password” to reset it. Do not use autosave or autofill for your login details.
