When Is Shoprite Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday is the Friday after the American Thanksgiving holiday. In 2026, that is Friday, 27 November.

Shoprite does not always keep its deals to one day. In recent years, the Shoprite Group stretched Black Friday over a few days. The table below shows confirmed dates from past years.

Year Black Friday Shoprite Group deal period
2023 24 November 2023 Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 November 2023
2024 29 November 2024 Thursday 28 November to Sunday 1 December 2024
2025 28 November 2025 Checkers Sixty60 ran an online “Early Black Friday” from 20 to 23 November 2025
2026 27 November 2026 Not announced yet

If 2026 follows the 2023 and 2024 pattern, deals could run from Thursday, 26 November to Sunday, 29 November 2026. This is only a guess based on past years. Wait for Shoprite to confirm before you plan around it.

A Short History of Black Friday at Shoprite

Black Friday is fairly new in South Africa. According to the Shoprite Group, Checkers introduced Black Friday to the country in 2014. Shoprite joined in 2017.

The group says the event is meant to help cash-strapped shoppers save before the festive season. That is why grocery basics often sit next to TVs and appliances in the leaflets.

What Deals to Expect (Based on Past Years)

We cannot list 2026 deals yet, because none have been published. But past Shoprite Group campaigns show the kind of specials that usually appear.

Product categories seen in past years

  • Groceries and pantry staples, such as coffee, cereal and cooking basics
  • Baby products, including nappies
  • Toys, often ahead of Christmas
  • Small appliances, such as air fryers
  • Tech and electronics
  • Pet products
  • Outdoor and camping goods (mostly at Checkers Outdoor)
  • Clothing (at UNIQ and Little Me, which are Checkers brands)

In 2024, the group said discounts went up to 50% on selected items. Not every product had that level of discount.

Common deal types

  • Straight discounts: a lower price on one item.
  • Multi-buys: “buy any 2 for” a set price.
  • Buy one, get one free: common on household items.
  • Member deals: lower prices only when you swipe your Xtra Savings card.

Limits and conditions to watch

Past Black Friday deals came with rules. In 2024, some items had a limit per customer. Some products were only sold at Hyper stores. In 2023, a few deals were only in certain provinces.

So always read the small print in the leaflet. A deal in a Gauteng leaflet may not be in your Eastern Cape store.

Shoprite vs Checkers: Which Store Has the Deals?

Shoprite and Checkers belong to the same group, but they run separate specials. Checkers usually carries more premium brands and bigger appliance deals. Shoprite focuses more on value groceries and household basics.

If you want to compare, check both leaflets before you leave home. Our Black Friday South Africa 2026 guide covers other retailers too.

How to Use Xtra Savings on Black Friday

Xtra Savings is the Shoprite Group’s rewards programme. Shoprite launched its version in October 2020. It is free to join.

There are no points to collect. Instead, members get instant discounts at the till on selected products. By September 2025, the group said Xtra Savings had more than 33.7 million members.

How to sign up for Xtra Savings

  1. Ask for an Xtra Savings card at any Shoprite till or service desk.
  2. Alternatively, register online at shoprite.co.za.
  3. Register the card with your details so it is linked to you.
  4. Swipe the card every time you pay.

Sign up before Black Friday. Queues are long on the day, and you do not want to miss member prices.

Why it matters on Black Friday

In 2024, some Black Friday deals were marked for Xtra Savings members. If you are not a member, you may pay the normal price for those items. In the 2025 Checkers Sixty60 early campaign, the group said Xtra Savings members saved more than in the year before.

Shopping Online vs In Store

Shoprite and Checkers both sell online. Checkers runs the Sixty60 delivery app. In 2025, Checkers ran an online-only “Early Black Friday” on Sixty60 from 20 to 23 November.

Online shopping tips

  • Download the official app only from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  • Add items to your cart early, then check prices when deals go live.
  • Expect delivery delays on busy days.
  • Check substitutions. If an item is out of stock, the store may offer a swap.

In-store shopping tips

  • Go early. Popular deals sell out fast.
  • Take your Xtra Savings card with you.
  • Bring a list and a budget, and stick to them.
  • Check your till slip before you leave the store.

Step-by-Step: How to Prepare for Shoprite Black Friday

  1. Set a budget. Decide what you can afford before you see any deals.
  2. Make a needs list. Focus on groceries and items you would buy anyway.
  3. Note today’s prices. Write down the normal prices of items on your list now. Then you can tell if a “deal” is real.
  4. Join Xtra Savings. Do this weeks before Black Friday.
  5. Watch for the leaflet. Check shoprite.co.za and your local store in the week before 27 November.
  6. Compare stores. Look at Checkers and other retailers for the same item.
  7. Shop early and check your slip. Make sure the deal price scanned correctly.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Buying things you do not need. A discount on something you will not use is not a saving.
  • Using credit for groceries. Interest can wipe out your savings.
  • Ignoring deal limits. Some specials allow only a few units per customer.
  • Assuming every store has every deal. Some deals are regional or only at bigger stores.
  • Forgetting your Xtra Savings card. You may miss member-only prices.
  • Not checking your till slip. Mistakes happen when stores are busy.

Scam Warning: Fake Shoprite Black Friday Offers

Scammers love Black Friday. They copy big brand names to trick shoppers. Be careful of:

  • WhatsApp messages promising free vouchers or gift cards “from Shoprite”
  • Social media posts asking you to share a link to “win” groceries
  • Websites with odd spellings that look like Shoprite
  • Anyone asking for your banking PIN, OTP or card details for a “prize”

Only trust deals on official Shoprite channels. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is. Never share an OTP with anyone.

Also watch out for fake Shoprite job adverts in the festive season. Shoprite does not charge fees to apply for jobs. See our Shoprite vacancies guide for safe ways to apply.
