SASSA pays grants early in the month over about three days. It avoids paying on the first day of the month, on Mondays, on weekends and on the day after a public holiday.

Grant amounts increased from 1 April 2026, as announced in the 2026 Budget:

Older persons aged 75 and over have historically received a slightly higher amount than those aged 60 to 74. Confirm your exact amount with SASSA.
When Is the SRD R370 Grant Paid?
The SRD grant does not follow the dates above. SRD payments are processed separately, usually in batches later in the month, and each person’s payment date depends on when their application is approved for that month. Check your SRD status and payment date on SASSA’s official SRD website, srd.sassa.gov.za.
How to Collect Your SASSA Grant
- Into your bank account: If your grant is paid into your own bank account, the money reflects on the payment date. This is often the safest option.
- SASSA Gold Card: You can withdraw at ATMs or pay for goods at shops.
- Retailers: Many supermarkets, such as Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer and Pick n Pay, let you withdraw grant money at their tills.
- Post Office: Bring your SASSA card and ID.
Tip: Your money stays in your account until you withdraw it. You do not have to collect it on the first day, so you can avoid long queues by going a day or two later.
What to Do If Your Grant Has Not Been Paid
- Check the date first. Make sure your grant type is due on that day.
- Check your balance at an ATM or through your bank, not only by SMS.
- Check whether your grant is under review. SASSA regularly reviews grants and may ask you to update your details.
- Contact SASSA on the toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID.
Protect Yourself From SASSA Scams
- Never share your SASSA card PIN with anyone, including people offering to help at ATMs.
- SASSA does not ask you to pay money to receive or speed up a grant.
- Be careful of WhatsApp and Facebook messages with “new grant” links. Use only official SASSA websites ending in sassa.gov.za.
- Do not give your ID number or banking details to unknown callers.
