The University of Mpumalanga (UMP) runs its applications, registration, and day-to-day student administration through an online student portal. Here’s how to get access and what you can do once you’re in.
Getting your login
Before you’re admitted, you’ll use the public applicant portal on ump.ac.za to create a profile and submit your application. Once you’re formally admitted and registered, UMP issues you an official student number and student email account — this becomes your login for the full student portal (sometimes bundled with the university’s learning management system).
What you can do in the portal
- Check your application and admission status
- Accept or decline an offer of admission
- Register modules for the academic year
- View and download proof of registration
- Check fee statements and outstanding balances (see our fees and NSFAS guide for what to expect)
- View exam timetables and results
- Access your student email and, for most programmes, the learning management system used for course material, assignments, and announcements
Common login issues
If you can’t log in, the most common causes are: using your ID number instead of your assigned student number, a not-yet-activated account (activation can take a few days after registration is confirmed), or an expired temporary password. UMP’s IT Helpdesk and the Registrar’s office can reset access — contact them directly rather than repeatedly guessing at credentials.
Keeping your details up to date
Make sure your cellphone number and personal email are current in the portal even after you get your student email, since UMP sends time-sensitive notices (registration reminders, NSFAS updates, exam changes) to both.
Portal names and exact navigation steps are periodically updated by UMP’s IT department — if anything in this guide doesn’t match what you see, the current official portal link on ump.ac.za takes precedence.
