Once you’ve received and accepted your offer from the University of Mpumalanga, the next step is registration. Registration usually opens in January, ahead of the academic year starting in February, and it’s where you formally become an enrolled UMP student.
Before you register
- Confirm your offer through the applicant portal
- Pay your registration deposit (a tuition deposit of roughly R4,100 for most degree and diploma programmes, though some diplomas require less — see the full UMP fees guide for a breakdown)
- If you’ve been allocated on-campus residence, pay the accommodation deposit as well
- If you’re NSFAS-funded, make sure your NSFAS application has been confirmed before registration opens, since a confirmed award can cover your deposit directly
Registration steps
- Log in to the student portal with the credentials issued after your offer was accepted
- Confirm your personal and contact details

- Upload proof of payment of your registration deposit (or confirm your NSFAS funding status)
- Submit and download your official registration confirmation
Payment details
UMP accepts electronic funds transfers into its official bank account — always use the reference number given on your offer letter so your payment is matched to your student number, and allow at least 48 hours for a transfer to reflect before your registration deadline.
What happens if you miss the deadline
Late registration is sometimes possible but may carry a late fee or require special permission from the faculty. If you’re going to miss a deadline, contact the UMP Student Financial Aid or Registrar’s office directly rather than assuming you can register whenever you’re ready.
